Rafting in Nepal : Bhote Koshi River
Bhote Koshi River Adventure
The Bhote Koshi is certainly the most exhilarating 2 days raft trip in Nepal. The Araniko highway links Kathmandu with Tibet and uses the valley floor of the Bhote Koshi before reaching the frontier. The hydro-dam at Lamosangu divides the good rafting section of the river in two. Phase I, below the dam, is the easier “practice section” that is rafted on the first day. Phase II, above the dam, is the more exciting section of Grade III+ and grade IV rapids, which is rafted on the second day.
Overnight camp is established at the top end of Phase II and support vehicle that uses the road alongside leaving rafts minimally laden with gear. This upper section in particular has a steep gradient and is strewn with boulders thus requiring quick responses from well-drilled raft teams. Kayaks (not safety oar raft) are in attendance.
