Is this trek for you?
Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in the world and is not easy. It is a very serious peak and bad judgement or even bad luck can be fatal.

Himalaya Guides Trekking & Mountain Adventures is a professionally led "non-guided" expedition for experienced mountaneers who want to work as part of a team to tackle the mountain. We say "non-guided" because, compared to guiding operations on alpine-scale peaks such the European Alps, our leader and climbing Sherpa team working with you will not be able to protect your every move. You must therefore have broad mountaineering experience so that you are capable and willing to move between camps unassisted. You will have good support on the mountain from our climbing leader and Sherpa team.
Dhaulagiri (8,167m), the "White Mountain" is the seventh highest mountain in the world, and is an enormous Himalayan massif in north central Nepal. The Dhaulagiri crest stretches for thirty miles, lending structure to an otherwise tangled photography of twisting ridges, glaciers and ice falls. The mountain was once thought to be the highest in the world, which is not surprising when its 4000m faces are viewed.

This is the perfect trip for those who want a more intense experience of the mountains. We trek deep into the Dhaulagiri region, which provides spectacular views not only of Mt Dhaulagiri, but Throng Peak, Annapurna I and Kali Gandaki, the world's deepest gorge. We may encounter semi wild yak herds, mountain sheep or the elusive snow leopard in the remote valleys of this region.

The approach is well worth descrption. After a short flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Jomsom, we spend the first few days walking through cultivated fields connecting mountain villages, enjoying the shops, tea houses and the lifestyles of the Gurung, Chhetri and Magar peoples. We walk along cobblestone paths, over suspensions bridges and through dense forests, taking in the vistas of some of the world's most beautiful mountains. We continue over the glaciated French and Dhampus passes and then descend a winding trail to Yak Kharka. We continue through mountain villages, enjoying the hot springs at Tatopani and views of the majestic peaks of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhare ranges as we make our way toward Pokhara, visiting several monasteries and religious sites en route.

Itinerary:
The Dhaulagiri expedition lasts 60 days. After our preparation, we fly to Pokhara on day 3, and then Jomsom on day 4. We then trek to Dhaulagiri via Kagbeni, Muktinath, Yak Kharka, Kalo Pani and Hidden Valley. The climbing period is days 14-52. We trek and fly back to Kathmandu by day 57.
