Cho Oyu (8201m), on the border of Nepal and Tibet, is the sixth highest mountain in the world and often regarded as the most straightforward of the 8000m peaks. The north west face of Cho Oyu, climbed from Tibet, takes us up easy angled snow slopes with one steep serac barrier to pass at around 6400m.

The Cho oyu expedition takes 38 days. After a couple of days preparation, we fly to Lhasa in Tibet. We spend a couple of days acclimatizing and sightseeing before we drive to Cho Oyu base camp. The drive takes us through Shigatse and Shegar, where we stop for a walk up an old hill fort. We arrive in base camp around day 9 and begin trekking in the area, up to 6500 m, to acclimatize. By day 19 we are trekking up to advanced base camp, then the main climbing starts from day 21. We drive back to Kathmandu on day 38.

Highly recommended!Top Himalaya Guides is run by Tshering Pande Bhote and Chhidar Lama, both highly respected individuals. Tshering was my guide on Everest in 2004 and Chhidar is on the Board of WHY, an educational charity for Bhote people that I started in 2012. They both contribute considerably to their community and run an honest and professional business. Both have been working in Norway during the summer season for many years now and are well aquinted to Scandinavian life and habits.

Tshering is as legit as they come! We had the pleasure of spending 3 days climbing with him near Kathmandu and had a phenomenal time! He’s an incredibly experienced mountain guide who was always happy to share his knowledge with us but at the same time very humble. Also just a funny dude lol. Would definitely go back for more climbing/mountaineering with him.

My partner and I had a great trek and climbing experience with Top Himalaya Guides.Participated on Himalaya Five Peaks Technical Climbing Course with Ama Dablam, which offered a great trek through the Khumbu valley and other nearby valleys, in addition to climbing several peaks. The highlight of the tour was to climb Ama Dablam. The service was exceptional, way above what we expected. The owner Tshering Pande Bhote is really well connected and provides a really flexible itinerary to adapt to changes that might occur. We can highly recommend using Top Himalaya Guides!
